Trace Adkins wore his Confederate flag earpiece while performing "The Christmas Song" at the Rockefeller Center tree lighting last Wednesday.

The Stars and Bars, which served as the Confederacy's flag during the Civil War, is still a frequently used – and to some is a highly controversial -- symbol. Some argue that the flag is merely a representation of Southern heritage, while others see its use as tacit support for the Confederacy's most abhorrent legacy: slavery.

The Sarepta, Louisiana native has yet to speak out about the matter.
