Rob Hale is the kind of boss most everyone would love to work for.  He's the CEO of Granite Telecommunications in Massachusetts.  Not long ago he was joking around with an employee who apparently had an enormous "Duck Dynasty-ish" beard, and told him that he'd donate $10,000 to cancer research if the guy would shave it off.

That great idea spawned an even bigger one, because the very next day, another employee said that for a $1,000 donation, he'd shave his head.  Those two seemingly insignificant thoughts planted the seed for one of the greatest acts of kindness from any company on the planet.

Six years ago, Hale's father was a cancer patient at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.  With that in mind and these two selfless employees setting the stage, Hale dove into the concept and and promised to donate $1,000 for every Granite Telecommunications employee who was willing to shave their head.

And they showed up in droves.  Over one hundred employees signed up to do it, so he upped the offer to $2,000 per bald head.  Then his mother Judy said she'd match the offer.  Plus, the company decided to donate another $1,000 per employee, so that brought the total to $5,000 per head.

Well, last Monday, Hale brought in barbers to the company's headquarters, and 428 employees, including Hale, had their heads shaved.  Together they raised $2.1 million total.

And all the women who had hair longer than 10 inches, donated it to Locks of Love, who makes wigs for cancer patients.
