Colby Platner is certainly the kind of guy you're hoping will cross your path if you ever find yourself needing a helping hand. Not only is he a jack of all trades, he's more than willing to drop whatever he's doing to pitch in and help out.

And because of Colby's giving spirit, it was easy to declare him this week's Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award recipient. Just read Colby's nomination letter that we received from Jenna Platner, and it'll be easy for you to see why Colby will not only be there to help you out, he's probably the first guy you'd like around during a zombie apocalypse.

I honestly don't know where to start! Colby is that guy who simply doesn't know how to say no. Garage door broken? Toilet wont stop running? Need someone to check your roof after a storm? He's done all of that! This rural Oklahoma boy is a jack of all trades, which makes him a great go-to guy when needs arise. School friends, neighbors, work friends, kids' friends, my friends - he has helped them all! On a trip from visiting family in Oklahoma, Colby stopped not once but 3 times to pull vehicles out of snowy ditches!

In addition to all of that, Colby is deeply invested in the local Boy Scout Council on many levels. He has served in more than a dozen adult leadership positions over the past 11 years, including being the leader for the local contingent's journey to West Virginia this summer - which means that he committed to HOURS of preparation spanning about 13 months before the event, then took 2 weeks off work in order to ensure that 12 boys and girls from NW Louisiana could have the best experiences of their lives Scouting with about 40,000 other scouts and Scouters.

I jokingly (and frequently!) call this compulsive do-gooder a true Boy Scout, but the truth is that he didn't have the opportunities to stay in the program as a youth. I'm sure this is why he is so dedicated to the institution and making sure that other youth DO have opportunities, leadership, mentorship & guidance. Colby has given in excess of 10,000 hours to Scouting in the past decade and deserves this recognition for his contributions!

Sincerely,
Youth & Adult members of Shreveports Venturing Crew #232 :)
