The City of Shreveport is set to ask the City Council for money to repair damages to Independence Stadium. The stadium was originally damaged by a tornado back in April. However, after temporary repairs were made, a line of strong storms in late July further damaged the roof, causing a severe leak on the club level.

The city says they have made an insurance claim but claims they need $228 thousand immediately to make repairs before high school football games take place at the stadium. One of the biggest high school football events in the region, the Battle on the Border, is scheduled at the stadium in early September.

If approved, the money would come from the capital improvements account set aside for maintenance of Independence Stadium. The work would take roughly two weeks to complete once funding is secured.
