A homeowner was injured while escaping his burning home Christmas morning.

Fire crews arrived at the home in the 1500 block of Hassett Street just after 10:30 a.m. to find smoke coming from a bedroom window. They saw the occupant exiting the home with a mattress that was on fire.

Firefighters had the flames out in less than 15 minutes. The bedroom of the home sustained minor fire damage.

The adult male homeowner said he thought the mattress was up against an outlet and that was the ignition source. The actual cause is still under investigation. The man suffered minor burns, but refused medical treatment. No one else was hurt.
