Raymond says Treveon Anderson was Payne's boyfriend and the father of her child. The chief says Anderson initially claimed he was inside the house on Midway and heard shots outside. He told investigators he ran outside and fired shots at a man wearing black clothing. But the chief says this was a false narrative and Anderson is believed to have been the triggerman. Two other men, Lawrence Pierre and Glen Frierson have also been arrested, but the chief did not outline what their alleged role in the murder was. All three men face 2nd degree murder charges.

Detective have recovered the gun believed used in the murder. It was a 40 caliber handgun and did not belong to officer Payne.

Police were called to the home on Midway just before 8:30pm on the night of January 9th where they found Officer Payne suffering from several gunshot wounds. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died. The coroner tells us Officer Payne was shot 3 times. One of the shots was fatal.
