The CDC is warning people to be extra careful with ticks as the weather gets warmer because they might carrying the Powassan virus. So far no known cure has been found for the virus.

In the past the virus has mostly been found in deer ticks located in the Northeast but experts believe it could be spreading. The Powassan Virus has shown to be deadly 10% of the time as it attacks your nervous system and will cause your brain to swell.

Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, weakness, confusion, loss of coordination, speech difficulties, and seizures. The CDC says If you think you or a family member may have POW virus, see your healthcare provider for evaluation and diagnosis. It usually takes between one week to a month after being bitten before you start seeing signs from the virus.

Like any other deer tick they're most commonly found in high grass areas around lakes or rivers.
