Nearly two dozen neighborhoods throughout Bossier Parish hosted block parties for National Night Out.

Sheriff Julian Whittington and his deputies visited residents at their parties. The sheriff kicked off the celebration at Kingston Plantation subdivision in the 100 block of Colonel Burt Boulevard in Benton.

"We always look forward to National Night Out because it gives us a chance to directly visit with the people we serve," said Whittington. "Folks have shown tremendous support for our deputies over the past few months in light of national events, and we so appreciate how our residents have rallied behind the 'Thin Blue Line'."

The sheriff's office says there were 23 events held throughout the parish. Deputies, Posse members, motorcycle patrol, K-9 teams, mounted patrol and parish firefighters visited many of them.
