My mother in law, Suzanne Craig is a breast cancer survivor.  First diagnosed several years ago, she underwent a lumpectomy to stop this invading monster.  Earlier this year, we had another scare but the Good Lord intervened and proved the new lump benign.

And though you could see the fear in Suzanne's smile, she never lost it.  She just smiled right past the danger.  Not once did she ever stop.  She even smiled as they wheeled her off to the operating room for the lumpectomy.  She smiled through her fears and her smile was infectious.

It lessened our fears. "Hey, if "Mama Sue" can smile through this, what are we worried about?"

She recently retired from her counseling business, but through it all she maintained that breast cancer was no laughing matter, but her counseling experience had proved to her that having a sense of humor in the face of something scary would speak volumes to those around her and actually aid in the healing process.  That said, we found some awesome t-shirts for purchase from Zazzle that not only provide a little humor to those who see them, they also show what the wearer is made of.
