Scammers are getting more and more bold in their effort to rid you of your money.  They will stop at nothing when it comes to tricking you into forking over the cash that you have worked for.  Fear, greed, ignorance - these are the tools they use.  The best thing to do to protect yourself is to use a whole bunch of common sense.  When a deal looks too good to be true, it usually is.  Don't let greed blind you.  Also, if you aren't sure - investigate.

That brings us to the latest scam warning out of Natchitoches.  Police are asking residents to be on the look out for con men posing as police officials.  According to KSLA, a resident there received a recorded message from (318) 357-3897.   The recording claimed that the resident in question had a warrant out for their arrest, and that it needed to be paid immediately to avoid jail time.  The fear of being thrown in the clink is the criminals tool to fleece an unwary, likely law-abiding, citizen.  The rotten no-good-nicks even claimed to be part of the Natchitoches Police Department.

The NPD has responded on their Facebook page by letting the public know, they do not inform people about warrants with a recorded message.  They also advised that if you do receive a call like this, hang up immediately and call (318) 352-8101 to report it.   Generally, you would know if you have a warrant out for your arrest.  However, I myself have been surprised by a speeding ticket turned warrant due to my forgetfulness.   If you have a doubt at all, you can always confirm this by calling the local police's non-emergency number.  They will be more than happy to help you out.
