Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington sent deputies and Sheriff’s Posse volunteers throughout the parish yesterday to deliver about 500 Christmas food boxes to residents who might otherwise not have much of a Christmas dinner.

At a news conference before the food was loaded into patrol vehicles, the sheriff told the media that this effort was part of his “Spirit of Christmas” campaign and an aspect of his food bank program, Operation Blessing. The food bank operates year-round, and is funded solely by contributions, not by public funds.

The sheriff stressed that the food distribution is a community effort by “the people of Bossier Parish.” He particularly lauded Brookshire’s. The market donated nearly 500 roasting hens and the cartons used to deliver the food. He also had high praise for Bossier Schools for helping in the food collection, placing barrels in the schools for students to fill.
