From the Bossier City Office Of Homeland Security:

Bossier’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is joining forces with the state Department of Health and Hospitals public health service to provide immunization for individuals who have been exposed to flood waters.

BOHSEP Deputy Director Gene Barattini said the public health service will be providing free tetanus shots and flu vaccinations to help ward off potential illness from pathogens that may exist in the floodwaters.

“We want to provide for public health assistance to residents of Bossier Parish who have been exposed to the historic flood waters of this event,” BOHSEP Deputy Director Gene Barattini said.

Barattini said the shots are for those who may have had to be in the water as they evacuated or assisted others and for all first responders. The tetanus shots are intended for those Bossier Parish residents who have not been inoculated against the bacterial disease in five years.

Vaccinations will be made available at three locations in the parish. Those are:

· Platt Elementary School, 680 Hwy. 80 E. Haughton, Thursday March 17, 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

· Elm Grove Elementary School, 1541 Old Hwy. 71, Elm Grove, Saturday, March 19, 9 a.m. until noon.

· Curtis Elementary School, 5600 Barksdale Blvd., Bossier City, Saturday, March 19, 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.

“Hopefully our residents and first responders will take advantage of this,” Barattini said.
