Another friendly competition in Caddo and Bossier Parishes, as the two school districts ring the Red Kettle bell to raise money for The Salvation Army.

Bossier Parish students, faculty and parents will ring the bells at several locations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, December 12: Walmart on Airline Drive, Brookshire's in Benton and Haughton, Hobby Lobby on George Dement Boulevard, and Walmart Neighborhood Market on Barksdale Boulevard.

Bossier Schools Superintendent D.C. Machen will kick off bell-ringing efforts at 10 a.m. at Walmart on Airline Drive. This is part of Bossier Schools' 'Helping Hearts: The Power of We' community service initiative.

On the other side of the river, Caddo Schools' administrators, teachers and school board members will ring the bells in this first-ever challenge between the two districts.

Representatives will be at four sites throughout the community: Sam's Club on Youree Drive, and Walmarts on Bert Kouns, Pines Road and Mansfield Road.

Caddo Schools Superintendent Lamar Goree will be at the Pines Road Walmart, along with school board member Dottie Bell, Commissioner Ken Epperson and City Councilman Jerry Bowman, from 2-4 p.m.

Board members Denee Locke and Bonita Douzart will volunteer, with Locke set to be at the Bert Kouns Walmart and Douzart helping Goree and Bell at the Pines Road location.

Recently, the mayors of Shreveport and Bossier City went head-to-head in the Red Kettle Challenge, with Ollie Tyler coming out ahead in fundraising efforts over Lo Walker.
