This is the second time I've featured Sturgill Simpson's music on my "Bandit's iPod" segment, but then again, I told you I was going to do that. His music is just too damn good not to!

The song I'm featuring today is the opening track on his album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music titled "Turtles All the Way Down."

I will warn you that although Sturgill has a very traditional country sound, some of the ideas he sings about are anything but traditional. I mean one of the lines in the song is, "There's a gateway in our minds that leads somewhere out there far beyond this plane." Hey, that's some heavy $#it! And it's not even the weirdest line in the song.

Another line in the song gives some of the best advice anyone could hear, "Go and try to have some fun showing warmth to everyone you meat and great and cheat along the way."

Now, be careful... there are some drug references in the song but you don't get the "country outlaw" tag without a couple of those! If you're wondering what the term "turtles all the way down" refers to, this may shed some light on the subject.

I can wholeheartedly recommend his second album to anyone that loves country music, or just loves great music in general. Get Metamodern Sounds in Country Music and thank me later.
