I got turned on to Sturgill Simpson after an appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and I have been wearing out his album "Meta-modern Sounds in Country Music" on my iPod ever since.

His latest album is his second full release and although you likely won't hear his music on country radio, he's gaining popularity for his traditional style that is mixed with ultra modern ideas.

I plan to feature more of his music in my weekly "Bandit's iPod" segment but for now please enjoy "It Ain't All Flowers" in the video below.

The idea behind "It Ain't all Flowers" is simple, referring to the notion that life ain't always rainbows and fairy tails. As Sturgill puts it, "it ain't all flowers, sometimes you got feel the thorn."

The very beginning and last couple minutes of the song features some backward recordings.  If you search hard enough on Youtube, you can find the backward recordings reversed so that you can hear it in it's original form. I don't think there is any hidden meaning in there, but you can decide for yourself.
