Bossier Parish is looking for a new District 1 Constable.

Applications for the position are being accepted at the Bossier Parish Courthouse through 4:30 p.m. October 3. Police Jury members will appoint a constable to fill the spot at their meeting October 5. Candidates will have the opportunity to address the police jury for up to five minutes prior to the vote.

To qualify for the position, applicants need to be of good moral character, able to read and write the English language, possess a high school diploma or its equivalent, and be an elector and resident of District 1.

Beginning in 2008, anyone who reaches the age of 70 while holding the office can complete the term, but candidates can't have attained the age by the date of qualification for office.

Whomever is selected will serve until March 25, 2017, the first available election date. In the event of a runoff, that election will be held April 29.

Constables are elected to serve six-year terms. Duties are to carry out the orders of the Justice of the Peace court, including serving citations, and acting as the enforcement officer of evictions and garnishments ordered by the JP court.
