We'll soon see another name on the list of those wishing to become the next Caddo Parish District Attorney.

Judge James E. Stewart will announce his candidacy at a news conference tomorrow at 10:30AM at the Wyndham Garden Shreveport Hotel on E. 70th Street. He's seeking the office that became vacant after the untimely death of DA Charles Scott.

Here's a snapshot of his professional experience:

  • Second Circuit Court of Appeal, Appellate Judge, September 1994-present
  • First Judicial District Court Judge, January 1991-August 1994
  • Caddo First Assistant District Attorney, 1989-1990
  • Caddo Assistant District Attorney, 1982-1989
  • Assistant Shreveport City Attorney, 1980-1982

Judge Stewart graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, where he's a Hall of Fame Inductee, earned his Bachelor of Arts at the University of New Orleans, then went on to get his Juris Doctorate at Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans.

Stewart joins a growing field of candidates for the DA's race. Laleshia Walker-Alford announced her candidacy last week. Interim DA Dale Cox says he will no longer be in the running.
