An LSU Pitcher Ends His Career Due To Injury

Any athlete who loves to play their sport dreads the day that they play their last game. In football, you're often told to play your hardest, and do everything right on every play, because you never know when it could be your last play.

But baseball is different; there's less injury risk on an average play, and the game is more patient. So when a baseball player has to wrap up their playing career early due to injury, it hurts even more.

Yesterday, LSU pitcher Alden Cartwright announced on Twitter that he is retiring from baseball, ending his playing career. The Senior Tiger hasn't played for LSU since April of last year, when he suffered a second major tear in his elbow. It was highly unlikely that Cartwright would be able to recover fully from the injuries.

His now former LSU teammates will take on Louisiana College tonight in Baton Rouge. The Tigers are now ranked #6 in the nation by Baseball America.
