I think it's clear to pretty much everyone we have some serious racial issues in our country. Resentment is a powerful emotion and the only cure is acceptance and love.

Yes, I'm white. No, I haven't ever had to really struggle. And by struggle I mean, fight for basic necessities like food, water or shelter. But I couldn't help but think last night, as I had sweat streaming down my face and a horse fly buzzing my ankle on the way out to empty yet another wheelbarrow load of manure, that if more people had horses, they'd be a hell of a lot happier.

As I looked across my field at my babies, happily munching down on some after dinner grass. I realized the world would be a heck of a lot more peaceful if we behaved like horses. Sure, we'd have a few battle wounds here and there, but by and large, they know their place in the world in relation to those around them. We've got a big grey on our property, a pint-sized bay thoroughbred, a ginormous black draft cross, a palomino and what's called a chestnut (I still say she's blonde!) Halflinger. They're all absolutely gorgeous in their own way, but when it comes down to it, their color is just window dressing. Their personality is what makes them who they are.

On the flip side, they don't gang up and pick on the black horse or the grey horse... the only time they really do that is if one of them is wearing a fly mask and frankly, we as people pick on anyone who lets their momma dress them funny, too!

I guess the message is that our skin color is just window dressing. I'm white. Yet, there are times I've felt oppressed. Some will scoff at that, but you don't walk in my shoes and frankly, unless I've shared my heart with you, you don't know it. Just because I'm white and live in a trailer in Princeton, LA, don't assume I'm racist. The reverse is true. Just because someone is black and wearing a hoodie, it doesn't mean they're about to rob the Circle K!

Then this  morning I ran across this video on Facebook... The source of so much rancor recently. But don't think it's an instrument of the devil because it also showed me this. The title is apt. Your mind will be fully blown.

In closing, can't we just love each other? Horses are well known for being forgiving and giving you more than your fair share of chances to get something right. Sure, there are people I don't like, but it's based on their actions as opposed to their skin color. I just avoid them... just like a horse would. And pray, pray for them and for myself to forgive whatever their transgression was, you'll only find peace within yourself. Just like a Christian would. Now that's a label I can embrace.

And just to be politically correct I should add that these are my opinions and they do not reflect the opinion of Townsquare Media, any of their radio stations or other employees.
