Sara Evans is nothing short of one of country music's superstars! With one of the most powerful female voices in the industry, it's truly a blessing to have her coming with Parmalee for the 2nd Annual Kiss Country Fest on Saturday, May 9 at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport.

And while you think you might know the full Sara Evans story, here are five things you probably didn't know:

  1. She's the eldest girl of seven children and it's a very musical family. When she was only five, she joined the family band. Though the band itself never saw real stardom, Sara rose to the top and never forgot her roots. In fact, she and her family are still very close and she had several members of her immediate family sing on her album, “Real Fine Place.” And while she was on the road touring, her brother played bass in her band.
  2. When Sara was only 8 years old, she was hit by a car in front of her home and suffered multiple fractures in both of her legs. She spent months in a wheel chair and earned money continuing to sing to help pay her medical bills.
  3. The title of her debut album on RCA records, "Three Chords and The Truth" was actually a tribute of sorts to Nashville songwriter, Harlan Howard, who once told her that the definition of a country song was just "three chords and the truth."
  4. In 2006, while she was country music's first contestant on "Dancing With the Stars", Sara pulled herself from the competition, citing "personal reasons." That reason was the very ugly divorce from Craig Schelske, who had only four years earlier unsuccessfully run for Congress.
  5. Her current husband, Jay Barker, was the quarterback at The University of Alabama when they won the National Championship in the 1993 Sugar Bowl. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers and also played for the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers. Together the two have 7 children; all from previous marriages.
